Press Release: Visit a New Holiday Tradition at the Museum

We received the following press release from the Lowell Area Historical Museum.

The Museum has a special new donation that will be a centerpiece of our holiday seasons going forward. Rita and George “Sid” Ammon recently donated the Victorian dollhouse they spent years building.

Rita (Kutsche) Ammon grew up in Lowell. She moved here in 1st grade and graduated from Lowell High School. The family lived at Hudson and Foreman Streets. Her father worked for Lamb construction building bridges around Michigan, including in Lowell. At first, the family moved around with him for each project. Rita noted that each of her siblings were born in a different city. As the family grew, they looked for a permanent home and moved to Lowell.

Rita and Sid created the dollhouse together. Sid did the construction and electrical wiring. Rita completed the décor. They bought miniature pieces during their travels around the country. The couple approached the Museum last year. They wanted the dollhouse to find a permanent home back in Lowell and be somewhere that everyone could share it. The Museum has the dollhouse on display through the holiday season in the Victorian Parlor. It will be an annual part of our displays. We hope you can visit this year to experience the dollhouse. Look closely, the Ammons have added many minute details including family pictures hung on the walls, cookies in the oven and more.

Additional information on the dollhouse will be available on the Museum website.

You can view the dollhouse during normal Museum hours: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday 1-4:00.

The Museum will be closed December 21-January 2.
