Rockin’ the Lowell Showboat Concert Benefits Rebuilding Local Icon

This Friday from 6pm-10pm a concert to benefit rebuilding the Lowell Showboat will take place.  The concert is free but proceeds from some food and drink sales along with in-kind donations will go toward the cause.  The evening will feature five musical sets from different groups.  The line-up of The Preservers, Josh Rose, Time Hungry, Upstage Crew, and wrapping things up Alive & Well and The Adams family perform together.

Planning the Event
Dale Kropf of Alive & Well was instrumental in making this concert come together working with LowellArts and the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce.  He attended the meeting in January of this year shortly after the Showboat was closed to the public.  “After attending the winter community meeting about the closing of the Showboat and the cost of rebuilding it I thought maybe doing a benefit concert with Alive & Well might be a start.” says Kropf.  “We have always had terrific support from the community when Alive & Well and The Adams Family perform for the Sizzlin’ Summer Concert Series, so why not use our music to help rebuild our community icon.”  Those providing entertainment all call Lowell home and will perform a variety of music.  Classic rock, blues, and works from and inspired by music from the 50s and 60s will fill the air along the Riverwalk.  Check out the performance schedule for the evening.

  • The Preservers – 6:00pm
  • Josh Rose – 6:45pm
  • Time Hungry – 7:30pm
  • Upstage Crew – 8:15pm
  • Alive & Well and The Adams Family – 9:00pm

Come to the concert hungry!  Concert goers will be able to purchase food from Flat River Grill, Main St. BBQ, Big Broiler Brewing, Larkins and Jared’s Ice Cream.  Alcoholic beverages will be available in a designated area and served by staff from Flat River Grill.  The following food items will be available throughout the evening.

  • New Union Brewery is donating a pony keg of North Country Ale
  • Painted Turtle Hard Cider is donating Blueberry Bliss Hard Cider
  • Flat River Grill will offer brisket and an appetizer in addition to manning the adult beverage area
  • Larkins will have BBQ hamburgers, walking tacos, and soda available
  • Main Street BBQ will be doing wings and water
  • Big Boiler Brewing will offer a brat basket and chips

A commemorative Rockin’ the Lowell Showboat glass will be sold at the event for $10, which includes one drink ticket.  Additional Showboat promotional items will also be for sale.  Attendees of the concert are invited to take home an item representing the Showboat’s history while supporting its future.

Help Rebuild the Showboat
While the entertainment is free, the concert is aimed at raising funds for rebuilding the Showboat.  Donations will be accepted during the event.  Those wishing to make a donation can also make a check out to Greater Lowell Chamber Foundation and mail it to the Lowell Area Chamber at 113 Riverwalk Plaza.

Recently Senator Dave Hildenbrand secured a 1 million dollar grant to go toward rebuilding the Showboat.  Additional funds are being sought for ensuring future upkeep of the structure in addition to the building of a new boat.

Friday evening is shaping up to be a great reason to head to the Riverwalk.  Kropf is looking for the community to have a good time.  “We just want people to come and enjoy the music and share their memories of the Showboat past, to help build memories for the future generations in Showboat City.” he says.  The weather looks to be conducive for a fun concert, good eats, and celebrating as a community.  Tomorrow from 6pm – 10pm the Rockin’ the Lowell Showboat Concert is where you’ll want to be.
