Scenes from Lowell: 2019 Lowell Expo Edition

Last Saturday, the Lowell High School was the place to be with dozens of local businesses and vendors offering samples, giveaways and discounts as part of the annual Lowell Expo. We were there all day and had a front row view of the entertainment. Here’s a recap of what we saw.

While organized by the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce, the Lowell Expo was made possible by the support of a number of sponsors. One major sponsor was J&K Roadside Service…

…and the other was Lowell Area Schools. A number of school administrators and staff, including Superintendent Greg Pratt, were on hand to meet with parents and answer questions about education programs in Lowell.

The Lowell Expo provides local businesses the chance to show off what they have to offer, and Greenridge Realty went all out to make the most of its booth space.

Many established businesses such as Arctic Heating & Cooling have been long-time Expo participants.

Ian Deming with Edward Jones Investments was another repeat participant.

Other businesses were making their debut appearance at the Lowell Expo. Deirdre Olszewski of Deirdre’s Cakes & Bakes proved to be a popular addition to the event. She was handing out delicious cupcake and cookie samples all day as well as giving away two cakes.

Michelle and Ken Trupke from Primerica were also in Lowell for their first Expo.

Beyond businesses, many non-profits such as the Baby Pantry of Lowell were set up at the Lowell High School.

Calvary Christian Reformed Church was one of several churches participating as well.

The ladies of the Lowell Women’s Club were pouring coffee.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jim Reagan was encouraging people to think twice about downing sugary drinks as part of his booth promoting good oral health.

Other health and wellness booths included Lowell Family Chiropractic. Out the window, you can see the Fire Department’s latest truck that was also on display.

In addition to the Fire Department, the Lowell Police Department was also represented.

City of Lowell councilmembers and the city manager mingled with the crowd near a booth that invited the public to attend a design day for Recreation Park. Community leaders are seeking input on what should happen with the property once the Kent County 4-H Fair moves to its new location in Lowell Township.

Possibly no one had more fun at the Expo than Police Cadet Jack Verhill.

He was controlling this talking police vehicle that was alternately delighting and terrifying children.

There was live music on the main stage all day, and you can find videos of many performances on the Lowell’s First Look YouTube channel.

Plus, there were Tae Kwon Do and fitness demonstrations.

The day ended with the Lowell Showboat Showdown where contestants had the chance to walk away with exciting prizes of all kinds.

But our favorite part of the Expo was the chance to see neighbors, talk with readers and learn what you think makes Lowell the next place to be.

Did you go to the Lowell Expo? If so, what was your favorite part?
