The Riverwalk Festival celebrated its 25th anniversary this past weekend with three days of fun for people of all ages. Here’s a look at all the action that took place in downtown Lowell.
Live music is always a highlight of the Riverwalk Festival. This year kicked off with The Insiders: Tom Petty Tribute Band on Thursday night, and Woodstock-inspired Magic Bus was the main entertainment on Friday. Saturday saw Bruce Matthews take the stage followed by The Adams Family.
Vendors also lined the Riverwalk all three days, and food trucks were grilling and chilling on Avery Street.
For antique enthusiasts, the Flea on the Flat offered vintage finds from furniture to globes to rolling pins.
If you want to get out onto the river, you could take out a kayak or enjoy a pontoon boat ride.
The pontoon boat rides were free and included information about the city and river’s history, compliments of volunteers from the Lowell Area Historical Museum.

…as well as some picturesque views of downtown.
Back on shore, the Friends of the Library held a well-attended book sale on Friday and Saturday.
The Saturday Kidz Zone included this giant bounce house and slide.
Quite a crowd of small people gathered round for free balloon creations.
Perennial favorites Pickles and Picante were joined by their friend Pepper at this year’s Riverwalk Festival as well.
And the Lowell Farm & Wildlife Center was on hand with a number of the animals they have rescued.
Meanwhile, cars lined Avery Street for the annual Riverwalk Cruise-In Classic Car Show.
One of the main events on Saturday was the parade. However, before that began, volunteers flooded Main Street with yellow bags containing candy and passed out popsicles to the waiting crowd.
Then it was time for the parade to begin.
With It’s a Ducky Thing! being the theme, ducks were everywhere — including these little mamas and their babies who were furiously spinning their wheels to keep up with the Alpha Family Center car.
Members of LowellArts closed out the parade with some peppy dancing to the Sesame Street classic that had everyone humming, Rubber Ducky, You’re the One!
