This past Saturday the big man himself, Santa made his arrival in Lowell. He greeted children and adults in his cozy cabin along the Riverwalk in the afternoon before heading to the annual pancake breakfast. He ended his evening closing out the Santa parade. The entire day, with a little chill in the air, was perfect for festivities.
If you missed visiting with Santa this past weekend, he will be around all month. Wednesdays December 11 and 18 he will be available from 5:30pm – 7pm. Saturdays December 14 and 21 he will greet guests from 10:30am – 1pm. Additionally, a Nite of Christmas Cheer will take place Friday, December 13 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm which will include hot dogs, roasted chestnuts, horse drawn carriage rides, warming fires, hot cocoa and cookies, and live reindeer. Santa and Mrs. Claus are eager to meet those from the community as well as people who travel here for the chance to see them.
The Riverwalk has been decorated, making downtown Lowell festive for the season.
A crowd gathered along the Riverwalk waiting to see Santa. They were entertained by musicians from Luc James Studio.
Inside the Chamber building Curiosity Corner Preschool teachers and staff had crafts ready for younger children to partake in. There were also cookies and hot chocolate! Crafts included coloring, decorating a Christmas tree, decorating a present, making a winter, cap, and more.
But the main event for most was the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus!
Once inside, people were able to warm up as the line got closer to Santa. His cozy cabin is decorated with lots of things to look at, including a book where children sign their names, officially marking they’ve had their visit.

Also happening throughout the day on Saturday was the Winter Book Sale at Englehardt library. A steady stream of people looked through books to see what treasures could be found.
Between his arrival on the Riverwalk and the parade, Santa made a stop in at the pancake supper where he had time to pose with the Kent County Youth Fair’s Royal Court.
Afternoon turned to evening as the community gathered for the annual parade. A cool sunset over the Flat River greeted those who came downtown early to get a spot. Many downtown businesses also remained open for customers to shop and warm up before the start of the parade.
This year’s theme for the parade was Candy Christmas. Prior to the parade numerous community elves handed out bags of candy to kids along the parade route.
As always, the Middle School and High School bands marched, the Kent County Youth Fair’s Royal Court were on a float, and numerous other businesses and organizations participated in decorating cars, floats, and themselves using the Candy Christmas theme.
Even if you have already gone to see Santa, the Nite of Christmas Cheer this Friday is another great chance to get in the holiday spirit in the Lowell community!
