Lowell has a new recreation option. A splash pad was dedicated on June 5, 5025, in a ceremony attended by officials from Lowell Charter Township and the City of Lowell.
While waiting for the dignitaries to arrive, kids had no trouble figuring out how to get the fun started. A button can be pressed to start the water which runs for about 15 minutes until pressed again.
Located at 11998 Fulton Street SE in the North Grand River Riverfront Park, the Lowell Splash Pad was a group effort.
Lowell Charter Township helped lead the effort by fundraising from private sources and obtaining a state grant. The City of Lowell pitched in as well, and the two municipalities have agreed to help maintain it.
Impact Church was also instrumental in making the splashpad possible. Since the township didn’t quite have enough space in the Riverfront Park for it, the church provided the needed land.
The ribbon-cutting was short and sweet, and it may be hard to hear in the video because of all the kids who were obviously having a great time in the background.
Lowell Township Supervisor Jerry Hale and City Manager Mike Burns did the honors of cutting the ribbon.
And while some adults commented on it being breezy and cool, the kids didn’t seem to mind at all.
