Scenes from Lowell: St. Mary Church Festival Edition

A few years ago, St. Mary Church decided it was time to start a new tradition. The parish launched a fall festival that has been growing ever since. This year’s event was held this past Sunday and featured good food, good music and fun for all ages.

Here’s a look back at some photos from the Sunday event.

Inside the church entrance, a table sold tickets for one of the main events: dinner! Festival-goers could choose from a pulled pork sandwich, pulled chicken sandwich or hot dog meal. Served up with coleslaw, beans and a cookie, it meant there was no need for anyone to cook at home on day when temperatures climbed into the 90s.

While people ate, Mark and Sara Mauren set the mood with their music.

Fr. Aaron Ferris, pastor of St. Mary Church, spent the afternoon chatting with parishioners and guests and checking out the stash of goodies won by kids from the games tent.

And there certainly was no shortage of goodies. Every game in the tent seemed to give away some type of toy or treat to participants.

Plus, once someone had participated in ten games, they could turn in their punch card for a bigger item off the prize table.

At only $3.00 for a punch card, it was an inexpensive way for kids in attendance to walk away with a bag full of goodies.

In addition to the kids’ games, there was a magic show and free balloon animals for everyone.

Inside were goodies of another sort. The Country Store was stocked with everything from homemade jams, jewelry and cards.

There were also handmade pillowcases, wash clothes and these adorable animals, which did not last long.

As usual, local businesses were well-represented in the raffle and as event sponsors.

At the silent auction table, there was a mix of items from gift baskets with religious items and baked goods from the Trinitarian Sisters to a quilt handmade by a parishioner to a toilet with installation from Canfield Plumbing.

While silent auctions and bingo and kids games may be fine for some, other people in attendance just wanted to watch the Lions game. The church set up a TV so no one would miss the action. (We won’t talk about the end though.)

Although many people worked to make the St. Mary Church Festival a success, special recognition goes to church secretary Rhonda Fitzpatrick (center right) who helped bring it all together.
