Scenes from Lowell: Summer Reading Wars Edition

How did you spend your summer? At least 850 of you spent some of it with a good book. That’s how many people finished the summer reading program at the Englehardt branch of the Kent District Library. Those who turned in their reading logs received gifts including beach towels, coupons and, yes, books. However, the branch also put on a special celebration this past Wednesday.

In honor of Lowell residents winning the Summer Reading Wars, the branch was transformed for Star Wars Day.

Of course, Star Wars Day required some special Star Wars guests. Library staff dressed up as favorite characters from the original Star Wars movies or, like Rey here, from the more recent installments of the series.

It’s not every day that library patrons get assistance from a great Jedi master.

Chewbacca and Yoda were a few of the other characters roaming the library for the day.

Teen crew members were on hand to help younger patrons with a variety of craft projects.

There were lightsaber popsicle holders…

…Star Wars “stained glass” to color and frame…

…as well as mini lightsabers and bookmarks to make.

The Star Wars photo booth had plenty of props for taking the perfect selfie.

And when visitors were ready for a break, they could head to the Cantina for a snack and a story.

Mmmmm…..Hans Rolos.

Did you make it to Star Wars Day at the library? If so, tell us your favorite part in the comments below or on our Facebook page.
