Scenes from Lowell: City and Student Events Edition

It was hot and then it was cold. It was another week in Lowell. It was also a busy time for local students and city leaders.

We’re not sure what’s happening at Performance Plus, but Michael Bay would surely approve.

St. Patrick School held their Spring Band Concert & Variety Show on Tuesday. Here’s the 7th and 8th Grade Band playing Arabian Nights by Roland Barrett. (Yes, we will eventually invest in a tripod.)

Charles Knapp, deputy sheriff for Lowell, died in the line of duty on May 24, 1932. This past week, the Kent County Sheriff Department presented a flag to Mayor Mike DeVore and City Manager Mike Burns in honor of Knapp.

It was Mayor Exchange Day, and officials from Wayland came to see everything Lowell has to offer. Here, officials from Wayland and Lowell stop for lunch at the fire station.

On Friday, St. Patrick School celebrated the 5th Annual Dorothy Spedoski Day of Service. The event is named for a beloved St. Patrick parishioner who was known for her kindness and commitment to service. When she passed away, her family established a scholarship in her name. Each year, it goes to a St. Patrick student who exemplifies Dorothy’s spirit. The scholarship ceremony is paired with a day of service in which students participate in a variety of community projects. This year’s scholarship winner is 6th grader Bethany Stahlin, shown here with members of Dorothy Spedoski’s family.

The sun was shining on Saturday morning, and these girls were all smiles. They are the Cherry Creek Elementary School participants in the 2017 Girls on the Run 5K. Girls on the Run is a nationwide program that challenges girls to “learn. dream. live. run.” The local run was held Saturday morning in Grand Rapids and was attended by hundreds of area girls.

Girls from St. Patrick School also participated in the Girls on the Run 5K.

Like the waters of the Flat River, life just keeps on a movin’. Make it a good week Lowell.
