Scenes from Lowell: Under Construction Edition

Parts of Lowell are getting a facelift with new buildings, new businesses and a new park. Here’s a look at the progress.

It looks like King Milling is almost done renovating this historic building on Main Street alongside the Flat River. The building houses office space for the company although it is not the main office for the business.

On Bowes Road, Ronda Auto Center is getting new digs to replace its current cramped quarters along Main Street.

Lake Michigan Credit Union is moving into town, and here’s a look at the construction on their building on W. Main Street.

A pavilion has sprung up on the site of Lowell Township’s North Grand River Riverfront Park on Bowes Road and behind Walgreens.

There is also a path that takes you back into the woods. When the project is done, the path should extend to a bridge across the Grand River.

But for now, it just loops back to the pavilion.

Lowell is growing and so are we! Thank you to all our readers and Facebook fans for making us your go-to source for Lowell news!

    • Hi Joe,

We contacted the Road Commission, and here’s what they told us:

Ultimately, the 4+ mile area in question will be receiving a chip seal treatment, which combines a layer of asphalt with a layer of fine aggregate to provide a high friction-wearing surface over old pavement.

To prepare for the chip seal application, our crews are currently doing “prep work,” addressing the most deteriorated sections of 36th Street between Snow Avenue and Segwun Avenue. These deteriorated asphalt areas are being pulverized and will be paved shortly. To be most cost effective, the pulverized areas will remain gravel until the spot paving is conducted along the entire stretch. On these sections, speed limits are reduced to 35MPH, with “Rough Road” signs posted. We are projecting that, within a week’s time, we will be applying new pavement over the pulverized material.

Once the “spot crush and shape” prep work has been completed, the chip seal will be applied edge-to-edge.

      Hope this is helpful!
