Scenes from Lowell: Spring is in the Air Edition

Spring is here, and Lowell is getting ready to celebrate the season in style.

Lowell students kicked off the week in style with their annual Collage Concert. About 300 people filled the Lowell Performing Arts Center to see instrumental and vocal performances from a variety of middle school and high school groups. The concert was held in conjunction with a silent auction, and the evening raised $3,500 for the Lowell musical arts programs. You can see more videos on the Lowell’s First Look YouTube channel.

Do you know what this is? It’s the inside of Ball’s Softee Creme. Yes, that’s right! The local ice cream parlor is getting ready to open its doors…er, windows…for the season. Watch for the full story on Lowell’s First Look on Monday morning.

If they aren’t already, your kids will likely soon be asking to play at the park. However, this equipment at Stoney Lakeside Park has seen better days. A group is working to replace it, but they could use your help. The Lowell Area Community Fund is willing to donate up to $28,000, but local residents need to help raise another $12,000 by the end of April to purchase the equipment most people preferred in a public poll. Visit Replacing Stoney Lakeside Park Playground on Facebook for more info on how you can help.

Bushnell and Cherry Creek Elementary Schools held a joint carnival on Friday. There were games and treats galore, including fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth cotton candy. Thank you PTO and volunteers for putting on this fun night for our families!

Saturday was the annual Expo. The Lowell High School was packed with people escaping the cold and rain to learn more about Lowell area businesses and organizations. Watch for a special Scenes from Lowell tomorrow with more photos from the event.

And for our historic photo of the week, check out this 1912 diploma discovered in the attic of a local house. We like to think that James P. Howard was just as smitten with Lowell 105 years ago as we are with it today.
