Scenes from Lowell: Youth Football and Cheer Pep Rally Edition

Last Thursday evening after youth football practice at Burch Field, Youth Cheerleaders held their first pep rally.  They welcomed guests, introduced the football players, and gave out prizes for players who won games they had organized.

Each Youth Football coach agreed to be drenched in water by players who voted the most via filling bottles with coins.

Old jerseys were for sale for those who wanted to pick up a certain number to add to a collection.

Football players practiced on the field prior to the pep rally.

Drills for various plays and tackling help prepare players for game day.

Shortly after practice was over the cheerleaders took the mic for the start of the pep rally.  Prizes were handed out to those in the audience who were cheering the loudest.

Football players were grouped by grade and able to run through one of three paper banners.  Each banner had one of three saying on it – Work Ethic, Attitude, and Effort.  These are things youth players and cheerleaders remember as they work on and off the field.

Spectators enjoyed cheers and games during the event, which brought the community together to celebrate Lowell’s youth.

Cheerleaders showed off some of the ways they’ll be cheering on the football players and getting the crowds into the game each week.

One of the games the cheerleaders had for the football players was called shake and bake.  Contestants had to shake balls out of a tissue box strapped around their waist while mixing baking soda and water.

Another game tested some players’ ability to drink root beer from a sippy cup!

One of the highlights of the evening was dumping water on the “winning” coach whose bottle contained the most money.  Coach Elmhirst was a good sport taking one for the coaching team.

The evening ended with the Red and White cheer.  Be sure to check out a Youth Football game this season where you’ll see players on the field and cheerleaders on the sidelines showing what Lowell team sports is all about.
