Starbucks Anticipates Opening Mid-January

Whenever new construction starts in the community someone typically asks, “What’s going there?” Lowell’s First Look addressed some of the answers to what’s going where earlier this year. One of the locations we highlighted was the area next to Fifth Third Bank in front of Meijer. Starbucks and WellNow Urgent Care will take up residence in the building once it’s complete.

We spoke with Matt Budzynski-Stotts who will be the store manager for the Starbucks opening in Lowell. He has worked with the company for eight and a half years. For the past four years, he has been a store manager in Lansing. Budzynski-Stotts moved to the Lowell community at the end of October. “I am excited having just moved to the community,” he says, eager for the new location to open.

As work continues on the inside of the building the Lowell Starbucks location is anticipated to open in the middle of January. Those familiar with the chain’s offerings will not only be able to get coffee and tea but also breakfast sandwiches, paninis, and baked goods. Those looking for healthier options are encouraged to try egg bites.

Preparation for Opening

The location will have 35-30 employees. Those interested in seeing employment can go to the Starbucks site for more information and apply. The location will also have a drive-thru.

Starbucks has seen value in opening locations in suburbs especially in or near grocery stores. Budzynski-Stotts indicated that being near Meijer as well as the traffic on Fulton made coming to Lowell and the specific location in the community appealing. He also commented that the Caramel Macchiato is a customer favorite while he frequently drinks a Nitro Cold Brew.

Lowell resident Ty Sheppard currently works at the Starbucks location at the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and will be looking to transfer to the Lowell location. “I love the coworkers, environment, how amazing the company is. It feels like I belong here,” he says of his employment. When asked what his favorite drink is he replied with, “Venti: Latte with Oatmilk and 5 packets sugar in the raw.”

Budzynski-Stotts says while a specific opening date has not yet been established the mid-January timeframe should stay on track. He’s sure that more information will come out later in December or early January.
