LOWELL, MI, May 25, 2017 – This summer LowellArts presents FLIGHT: An Exhibition of Art of Things that Fly, Float or Soar, open to the public June 17 – August 12. The LowellArts Gallery is located at 223 W Main St., Lowell, MI 49331 and gallery hours are: Tuesday–Friday 10am-6pm, and Saturdays 10am-5pm. Also with the theme of FLIGHT, LowellArts presents a series of Summer Youth Art Classes for students ages 7 to 12, Wednesdays, 10:00am to 11:30am – June 14, June 21, June 28, July 12, July 19, and July 26 – registration is required. Students ages 7 to 18 are also invited to register for a Summer Youth Theater Experience, 6:00pm to 7:30pm – July 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and July 24, 25, 26 – and prepare a short play titled How to Fly in Your Dreams. FLIGHT: An Exhibition of Art of Things that Fly, Float or Soar, will be on display at the LowellArts Gallery June 17 – August 12. Artists were invited to join LowellArts for FLIGHT: an exhibition of artwork representing things that fly, float, or soar. Artwork in any medium was accepted from Michigan artists ages 14+. Entries could be images of things that fly, float or soar, or are things that actually fly, float, soar, hover, suspend, etc. (within the confines of what can feasibly be displayed and enjoyed in a gallery space). All representations of flight or other means of an object being suspended in air were considered. Entries can depict mechanical or natural means of flying, either 2-Dimensional or 3-Dimensional visual art.
FLIGHT: Summer Youth Art Classes are being offered Wednesdays, 10:00am to11:30am – June 14, June 21, June 28, July 12, July 19, and July 26. Students ages 7 to 12 are invited to a series of workshops with the theme of FLIGHT. Guest artists will work with students to create visual art based things that fly, float and soar. A different project will be presented each week. Sign-up for just the sessions that work for you! Instructor: Sharon Brander (Weeks 1, 2, 3), and instructor: Christy Spaulding (Weeks 4, 5, 6). FLIGHT: Summer Youth Theater Experience is being offered 6:00pm to 7:30pm – July 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and July 24, 25, 26 (plus Sat, June 24, 10am-12pm – optional). Students ages 7-18 are invited to register for a beginning theater class and production. On Saturday, June 24, 10am to 12pm at LowellArts students will have the opportunity to do a read-through of the play, after which the instructor will assign parts. Everybody will get cast in the show! (Separate arrangements can be made with students who are not available on Sat, June 24). Students will leave with a script, allowing time to start learning their lines before rehearsals/classes begin. Students will learn the basics of acting including character development, blocking, stage presence, and more. Students will also help design their costume, assist with set design, and prepare a short play – “How to Fly in Your Dreams”. The play will be performed for family and friends at the last class.
