Swift’s Christmas Trees Available at Heidi’s Farmstand

Swift’s Christmas Trees has been serving the Lowell community for over 10 years.  Setting up at Heidi’s Farmstand at the corner of Alden Nash and Cascade road nearby exit 52 of I-96, the family’s seasonal business offers a variety of trees and does all the heavy lifting for you.

Busy Schedules Made Easier

Bridget Swift grew up on the east side of the state, but after coming to college at Grand Valley State University in 1991 she never left the west side.  She has been a resident of Lowell for 22 years. One evening back in 2006 she and her husband went searching for a Christmas tree after work. An open tree lot was finally found around 9pm on the west side of Grand Rapids.  Swift recalls, “We got in the car and I said to my husband ‘I think I should open a Tree Lot in Lowell that stays open for people that have to work all day.’ After he finished laughing at me, he told me to try it!” And she did.  Swift’s Christmas Trees has been open for 13 years. The first two years they set up along M-21 but in 2009 they moved to Heidi’s Farmstand and haven’t looked back.

Doing the Heavy Lifting

Trees sold at the lot are from a grower who has farms in Holland and Hart.  Swift’s day job is a general manager for a blueberry processing facility. This position allows her to work during the summer months, giving her the winter months to be a stay-at-home mom and take on the Christmas tree lot.  Her agriculture connections in the Holland area has made for a source of trees each year. The tree grower Swift has been working with has also been able to mentor her in the tree lot business.

Those who purchase a tree from the Swift family merely have to select the tree that’s going home.  “What I like to tell people when the come to Swift’s Christmas Trees is all you have to do is point and smile.  You find the tree you like we will take your picture with it, cut off the end (so it will draw water), wrap it in netting (to make it easier to get in your house), and tie it on your car for you.  All in the time it takes you to go and get a donut from Heidi’s.” says Swift of the process.

You’ll find Fraser Firs, Douglas Firs, Blue Spruce, Concolor Fir and Scotch Pine trees on the lot ranging in size from 6 feet to 14 feet in height.  Trees are priced from $35-$150 depending on the type and height. A $5 discount is offered to fire fighters, police officers, EMS workers, and those in the military as a way of saying thank you for serving the community.

Hours of Operation

Swift and her family, which includes two sons, Brody and Brady who are a sophomore and 8th grader respectively, help out at the lot.  Additionally, some other college and high school students help with all of the heavy lifting.

Swift’s Christmas Trees is open Monday through Friday noon – 7pm, Saturdays 10am – 7pm, and Sundays 10am – 5pm.  They can be found at Heidi’s Farmstand at 11999 Cascade Road SE.  Trees can be purchased until stock runs out which is usually around December 20.

Bridget Swift enjoys offering Christmas tree selections to her customers.

  1. Happy Holidays!
By chance do you have any concolor firs left? I’m looking for a 7-7.5′ tree. I’d hate to drive out there from GR if you don’t have any.
    I sure hope so!!! 🙂
