Teen Leadership Summit Encourages Participants to “Take Charge”

Construct Lowell Area Youth (CLAY) is hosting a Teen Leadership Summit on Sunday, September 24 with registration beginning at 4pm at the Freshman Center at Lowell High School.  CLAY introductions will start at 4:30pm.  The theme of the evening, structured like a business conference, will encourage teens to “Take Charge”.  Students wishing to attend the summit are encouraged to sign up.  The event will be an excellent item to put on a resume and falls in line with CLAY’s goals of helping community teens.

Business Conference Structure
One of the main objectives of CLAY is to provide teens with necessary life skills in order to be independent adults after high school.  The four-hour long seminar will show attendees how to “Take Charge” of their high school years whether they recently began the last or first year.

The summit will take on the look of a business conference.  Joe Martino will be the keynote speaker.  He is a counselor at Creative Solutions Counseling.  While speaking with students they will “feel a hug and kick in the pants at the same time”.  His message will be about how students can empower themselves to see positive results in their lives.

Breakout session choices are Telling Your Story Through a Resume led by Erica Martino and Kasey Delinsky, Planning to Launch & Avoid Pitfalls with Bill McElroy and Kristy Rempalski, Making the Most of Your High School Experience conducted by Drew Struckmeyer and Sue Sweet, and Discovering Your Talents and Traits conveyed by Phil and Andrea Struckmeyer.  Students will be able to choose two of the sessions.  They’ll learn the dos and don’ts of social security numbers, how to identify strengths, the impact of social media when applying for a job, what high school has to offer, and much more.

During a scrumptious Mexican dinner students will listen to a panel of four consisting of Sterling Massey of State Farm, Dawn Broene Director at Flat River Outreach Ministries, Kasey Delinsky from Amway, and Josh McCracken a realtor at Greenridge Realty.  Jon Bell will moderate a question and answer session as panelists look back at their high school days and how they got to where they are now.  Stories will be shared about success and failure and how both are important in becoming an independent adult.  Students will also have an opportunity to ask questions.

This event is the first put on by CLAY as they begin their mission of helping teens in the Lowell area.  Following the summit participants will take away knowledge and resources in addition to receiving information on upcoming seminars which will dive deeper into break out session topics.

This resume building and personal development evening is an introduction to the many things CLAY has to offer as a resource in the community.  The cost for the Teen Summit is $5, however if a teen attends and brings a friend both can participate free of charge.   Online registration is currently open.  The $5 will be collected at the door.
