The Best Catch in Town

It’s not easy to find a small family business in the big box store age, but Lowell has quite a few establishments with local roots.  If you’re interested in freshly prepared fish stop by Fry Daddy’s.   The local demand for fish equates to Fry Daddy’s approaching its 20 year anniversary.

Brian, Tim, and Paul Stroosnyder started the business in 1997.   The first location was in Kentwood.  A couple of years later the Lowell location opened its doors.   And in 2000 a third restaurant on Plainfield was added.  A family member had a restaurant named Hook and Cook so the trio already had an idea of how a fish focused restaurant would be successful.  Tim’s wife, Nancy Stroosnyder says, “The brothers saw their uncle’s thriving business back in the 80’s-90’s and saw an opportunity to work for themselves.  They pooled their money and became partners.”  Hook and Cook was the name of their uncle’s business so the trio already had an idea of how a restaurant with a focus on fish would succeed.

Tim and Nancy have but one employee but this team of three are able to keep the establishment open seven days a week.  A variety of fresh-water and ocean fish can be found on the menu.  A daily fish basket special allows you to try a different fish depending on what day of the week it is.   Lake Perch and Ocean Perch are a favorite with customers.  While all of the fish is fried, Nancy hopes to do enough research to add a grill for a non-fried option.  And if you happen not to be a seafood fan they also offer various sides and chicken strips.

Due to lack of business in Kentwood and on Plainfield only the Lowell location remains.  But the brothers have been contemplating scouting for a second location.   You can find Fry Daddy’s at 608 W. Main St. in Lowell and on Facebook.  The Stroosnyders are looking forward to many more years of serving the Lowell community.   Fish on!
