Upcoming Fundraisers to Help Senior Neighbors

Senior Neighbors gives those 60+ opportunities to experience social, educational, and entertaining activities throughout the week.  Daily lunch allows those who want to take a break from making a meal for one or two to eat with others.  Each month a birthday party is held.  And bingo days are always popular.  Classes such as exercising and nutrition are available as well.  Kent District Library comes to the center with books which can be checked out.  They also help seniors with technological gadgets which can be confusing.  All of these things come at a reduced cost or no cost at all for participants.

As a non-profit organization, the group relies heavily on donations in order to provide various programs and opportunities.  Senior Neighbors has two upcoming opportunities for the community to help raise money.  A garage sale and fundraiser at Keiser’s Kitchen are chances for others to contribute.

On Saturday, October 14 from 9am-5pm the community is invited to check out household items, holiday decor, movies, CDs, books, and more at the Senior Neighbor’s garage sale.  The event will take place at their facility located at 314 S. Hudson.  Stop by and see if there’s an item you can’t live without.  Or something you like and want to make yours.

Additionally, Wednesday, October 18 from 5pm-7pm plan to eat at Keiser’s Kitchen.  If you present this flyer and sit on the right side of the restaurant, after entering the building, Keiser’s will donate 50% of their profit to Senior Neighbors.  In order to be able to do this, a group of high school students will serve as wait staff for the evening.

Terra Bieneman, Senior Neighbors Coordinator in Lowell, came up with pairing with a local restaurant as a fundraiser.  “I was ecstatic when Trudy [of Keiser’s Kitchen] was on board when I presented the idea to her. This community is such a supportive community and so appreciated.” she says.  The community is invited to eat dinner out which will support a local business and help raise funds for a local non-profit organization.

Donations are important to Senior Neighbors.  Funds are used for entertainers, party supplies, center supplies and bills such as trash and cleaning service.  Their facility is inviting and provides positive experiences to those who are regulars or just stop by from time to time.
