This Weekend in Lowell: Christmas Shuts Down the Town

The presents have been purchased – maybe even wrapped! – the tree has been trimmed and the plans have been made. Yes, Christmas is mere days away.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for many people, but it might not be so jolly if you wake up on Christmas morning and realize you’re out of eggnog. That’s because Christmas is the one day of the year in which most business close their doors to allow employees to spend the day at home.

If you know of a Lowell business that will be open on Sunday, please leave a comment below. We’ll update this article with that information. In the meantime, our advice is to gas up the car and get all your shopping done on Saturday because there’s no guarantee anyone will be open on Christmas day.

When does the Lowell Meijer close for Christmas?

This is the big question many people have. Meijer is usually the go-to store 24/7 for whatever you need, but Christmas is the one day of the year its lights go dim.

The Lowell Meijer will close at 7pm on Christmas Eve and remain closed until 6am on Monday, December 26.

By closing at 7pm, we mean they will likely be shooing everyone out at the time. Don’t expect to show up at 6:55pm and take a long and leisurely stroll through the aisles. The employees will thank you for wrapping up your trip ASAP because the quicker you are out the door, the quicker they get to go home and finish their own holiday preparations.
