Once the holiday season passes, it’s easy to whine about winter. It’s cold; it’s dark; it’s dreary.
However, Lowell’s downtown merchants suggest you replace that whine with something more enjoyable. Their annual Wine About Winter event takes place this Saturday, January 15, 2022. Participating shops will have promotions and giveaways, and local restaurants and breweries will have drink specials.
“It’s just a fun winter event to get everyone out,” says Martha Davis, owner of clothing boutique Tap House Bo and one of the event’s coordinators.
2022 Wine About Winter Participating Business
There are 19 businesses participating in the 2022 Wine About Winter event:
- Bella Grace Boutique
- Big Boiler Brewing
- Flat River Cottage
- Flat River Gallery & Framing
- Flat River Grill
- Larkins Restaurant
- Lavender & Lace
- Main Street BBQ
- MI Hometown Furnishings
- New Union Brewery
- North Star Antiques
- Olivia Grace Salon & Facial Bar
- Red Barn Consignments & Antiques
- Rookies Sportscards Plus

All businesses are located within Lowell’s social district. That means shoppers can buy a drink to go and enjoy it while browsing the sales.
However, only alcohol purchased from an establishment participating in the social district can be carried outside. Bringing drinks from home isn’t allowed, and this is easily enforced by police since drinks served for consumption in the social district come in specially designated cups.
Since the social district doesn’t open until 12pm, Davis suggests people spend a few hours browsing shops before getting lunch or a drink. She adds that most merchants will be fine with you bringing your drink into their store while you browse.
“We have phenomenal shopping down here,” Davis says. Merchants will have punch cards available, and shoppers who visit 15 of the businesses will be entered into a drawing for Lowell Bucks. Many stores are also holding their own giveaways.
