While the presidential election is obviously the main event on the November ballot, the local race garnering the most attention is that for the Lowell Area Schools Board of Education. Four people on the board are up for reelection, but Tom Kaywood has opted not to run so there is one open seat to be filled. The remaining three incumbents are all vying for a chance to return to the board. They are joined on the ballot by three challengers — although one opted to discontinue his campaign over the summer.
Here are your five choices for the board with links to their candidate profile:
- Jessica Curtis — Incumbent
- Brian Krajewski — Incumbent
- Laurie Kuna — Incumbent
- Sharon Shah
- Annie McMahon Whitlock
The final name on the ballot is Parker Liu, but he suspended his campaign in August for personal reasons.
To help residents decide who should get their vote, we asked candidates a series of questions that touch on the major topics facing the board of education. You can read their answers below:
- Challenges and priorities
- School safety
