Press Release: 29th Annual Christmas Through Lowell Cancelled

We received the following press release from the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce.

After much deliberation and considering all the options, it is with great sadness that Lowell Area Chamber Board of Directors has decided to cancel the 2020 Christmas Through Lowell event.

This decision has not come easy. We have consulted with Kent County Health Department for their expertise. Currently Region 2 (the Greater Lowell Community) is under Executive Order 2020-110 that set limits to the number of people who could safely gather for indoor and outdoor events.

The uncertainty and overabundance of caution are the main reasons for the cancellation of the traditional “Christmas Through Lowell.” Encouraging gatherings into private homes is not prudent or safe. We also understand the impact it will have on our business community. We hope that our community will stand behind this decision and support locally. The board will be looking at other ways to hold smaller intimate events throughout the holiday shopping season.

  1. I will truly miss this event! We , The Frosty Five. have been participating for 14 years as a vendor! If you have any indoor/ outdoor Michigan made markets or craft shows coming up I would be interested in participating! Do you know of any local shops that might be willing to take in some holiday wares? Thank you ! Donna

    • Hi Donna,

In the past, LowellArts has held a holiday artists’ market in their gallery, and the Rouge River Artisans have hosted a craft show annually at the high school in December. We don’t know the status of those events this year, but they may be worth checking out. It sounds like the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce may also be looking into some smaller scale events during the season as well to compensate for the loss of Christmas Through Lowell.

      Best wishes!
