Shooting Incident Shuts Down Main Street in Lowell

A man was found dead and a woman seriously injured in a Lowell home on Tuesday morning.

Sgt. Dietrich of the Kent County Sheriff’s Office reported that Lowell police were called to check on what was thought to be a car accident in the 800 block of W. Main Street. Signs of “injuries” were found in the otherwise empty car which prompted an investigation into the ownership of the vehicle. Police were led to a home on S. Pleasant Avenue off of W. Main Street. Lowell police had also been called to this same residence over a domestic dispute the evening before at about 10:30 pm.

At this residence, a tactical team entered the home and found a 25-year-old injured female and a 28-year-old deceased male. The woman was taken to the hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.

An unidentified Lowell resident of S. Pleasant Avenue said she saw a stretcher being taken from the home along with a police and SWAT team presence. She said she heard three gunshots at about 10:30 am on Tuesday.

The exact nature of the injuries and cause of death have not yet been released, nor have the names of those involved. Sgt. Dietrich said the investigation is ongoing, and there is no threat to the community. A large portion of Main Street was blocked off by police for the investigation until approximately 2:30pm.

A bulletin sent in the afternoon by the KCSO noted: “Based on preliminary findings, this appears to be an isolated incident between the two individuals involved; however, the investigation remains ongoing.”
