Care Resources, a community-based medical facility that treats patients aged 55 and older, officially welcomed the public to view its new Lowell location during an open house on Saturday, Nov. 9.
At a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the preceding day, the outgoing, retiring Care Resources CEO Tracey McKnight introduced her replacement, Kimberly Smith. Smith will oversee the new $7.1 million facility in Lowell along with the organization’s original location in Kentwood.
The new 16,500 square-foot building on 3.4 acres of property at 11730 Fulton St. houses a state-of-the-art rehabilitation/therapy gym, a full-service medical clinic, and several activity areas for patients and their caregivers. Construction on the facility began a year ago.
Approximately 30 new employees will staff the facility, which is expected to accommodate up to 125 people daily. No firm date has yet been set for the facility to be open to program participants.
Care Resources uses a “holistic approach” and creates teams to work with participants and families to “develop a comprehensive care plan unique to the physical, mental, emotional, and social needs of each participant,” according to a press release.
New CEO Smith said the facility will benefit many future participants from all over West Michigan.
“Some of our participants live a bit far from the Grand Rapids location, and we have several participants who live in this community,” she said. “This will be a much shorter bus trip, and plus it really keeps them close to home.”
“We’re really excited about this new center,” Smith added. “It will be great for the Lowell community. Care Resources is so excited to be here in Lowell.“
Sister Diane Zerfas, a representative of the leadership team of the Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids, which is a partner with Care Resources, did the invocation. She asked a blessing on all those involved in the planning and building of the facility as well as those who will be future participants.
“Make this be a place of kindness and joy, healing and compassion,” Zerfas said.
The original Care Resource facility opened in 2006 and is located at 44th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue.
