Saturday will be a day for heroes at the Lowell Girls Varsity Lacrosse team’s game against Jenison. The team will be honoring those who make a difference in the community, and everyone is invited to attend the game. There will be no admission fee although donations are being collected for Flat River Outreach Ministries.

“We thought it would be good to celebrate everyday people,” explains Jennifer Dougherty, a parent representative for the team. “Normal people who step in and fill a need.”

Honorees include individuals from many walks of life, including teachers, a surgeon, a public health worker and grandparents, among others. “It was very interesting to see the different people the girls selected,” Dougherty says.

The event on Saturday – May 7, 2022 – will begin with a Heroes Ceremony at 1:30pm followed by the game against Jenison at 2:30pm. The event takes place at the new LAS North Athletic Complex, which is located on the Lowell High School campus off Vergennes Street.

There will be no admission fee for the game. Instead, donations will be collected for FROM.

“They really struggle to get personal care items,” Dougherty says. To meet that need, the lacrosse team is suggesting people bring matching shampoo/conditioner sets, 2 in 1 shampoos and feminine hygiene products. Cash donations and non-perishable foods will also be accepted.

“It looks like the weather will be great for a day of lacrosse,” Dougherty says. The 20 girls who make up the varsity team hope you will come out for the game and celebrate some of the community’s heroes.
