Changes in Store for Pink Arrow XI

It’ll be an epic battle on August 30, 2018 when two of the region’s most dominant football teams face off during Pink Arrow XI.

In the 11th year of the annual event – which raises funds and awareness for cancer support in the community – the Lowell Red Arrows will transform into the Pink Arrows. They’ll host the visiting Rockford Rams in what should be an exciting evening of football.

Pink Arrow Moving to Thursday Night for 2018

The Pink Arrow game has traditionally been held the first week of school. In the past, that meant the game landed at the start of September. However, with Lowell Area Schools starting classes on August 21 this year, that bumps the game up to the end of August.

There won’t be any Friday night lights for the game either. Fans can look forward to a Thursday night game instead. Since Pink Arrow is scheduled at the start of Labor Day weekend, the big game has been moved up one day to Thursday. Now everyone can kick off the four-day weekend with a bang.

While game day has changed, you’ll still find the same great line-up of events. In addition to the varsity football game, the volleyball and soccer teams will suit up in pink for their matches as well. Plus, there will be Restaurant Row, the Survivor Walk and other activities planned for what is Lowell’s biggest athletic day of the year.

“All teams play in pink and play for the Pink Arrow cause,” explains event coordinator Teresa Beachum. She notes that the event not only raises money for family support services but is a powerful way to show solidarity to those personally affected by cancer. “This is lifting up the people in our community [who are] on a cancer journey.”

Events Leading Up to the Big Game

While the showdown with Rockford isn’t until the end of August, Lowell residents will have all summer to get into the Pink Arrow spirit. Here’s what Pink Arrow XI has planned:

  • Throughout July – Stories of Perseverance by community members who have been supported by Pink Arrow. Watch for them here on Lowell’s First Look.
