We received the following press release from the Franciscan Life Process Center.
Lowell, Michigan, April 2, 2025 – The Franciscan Life Process Center has announced its new True Adventure Experience, a series of week-long, technology-free programs designed to help kids build life skills and reconnect with their surroundings while having fun this summer.
The True Adventure Experience will include three unique week-long programs July 21-Aug. 8 for school-age children at the Center’s Lowell campus, 11650 Downes St. NE. Each week will be based on a different theme, and run 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Children ages 6-12 may be signed up to attend one week or all three.
“In today’s digital world, children often find themselves surrounded by screens, which have become the primary way they play and engage with others,” Center Director Sandy Koteskey said. “Our new True Adventure Experience will offer kids the chance to find enjoyment in unplugging from technology and take part in fun activities that foster social skills and creativity.”
The themed weeks tap into the beauty of the Center’s 230-acre farm:
- The Wild West – July 21-25: Explore the challenges of the untamed West of the late 1800s. Participants will gain skills by working with animals, learning archery, foraging for food and making root beer. They’ll also have fun creating art and music and playing games popular in the pioneer days.
- In the Footsteps of St. Francis – July 28-Aug. 1: Come learn how St. Francis praised and gave glory to God in all his daily works. Through working with animals, cooking in the kitchen, making music, creating art and playing games, participants will experience creativity and gain practical skills while having fun with one another.
- Campfire Storytellers – Aug. 4-8: Once upon a time, information was passed on through storytelling and folklore. Through popular stories, participants will explore history, adventure and fantasy. They will exercise their imagination with music, arts and crafts, cooking, building and interactive games. The program will conclude with a presentation to loved ones.
Online registration is now available. Signing up for one week costs $300 for a single participant and $150 per additional participant. For all three weeks, registration is $750 for one participant and $450 for additional. Snacks will be provided, but children will need to bring a sack lunch to attend.
True Adventure Experience volunteer opportunities are available for kids who are confirmation age and adults. Those interested in volunteering may contact Stephanie Debyle at [email protected] for more information.
