Ice Cream Social and Fundraiser to Benefit the Barn for Equine Learning

Many remember the tragic loss from 2017 when The Barn for Equine Learning lost 13 of their horses and barn to a fire.  Since then, the non-profit organization has rebuilt and continues to grow.  This Sunday, North Star Antiques will host an event to benefit the barn.

Ice Cream, Silent Auction, and In Store Specials

North Star Antiques will be open on Sunday for extended hours.  Stop in anytime between 9am – 5pm. One of the store’s dealers is sponsoring ice cream for the event.  Throughout the day cash donations will be accepted with all of the funds collected going to The Barn for Equine Learning.

A silent auction will also take place.  Items included in the auction are an antique stove, horse saddle, and furniture with 100% of what is raised going to the barn.  Additionally, 20% of sales on Country Chic Paint and new Home Decor items will be donated to the barn.  Store-wide markdowns of up to 50% off some items with an option to donate any amount of the purchase savings.

The Barn’s Mission

The Barn for Equine Learning strives to help youth and adults who seek emotional, mental, or personal growth through connecting people with horses.  A special bond is often formed between humans and horses. This relationship leads to a release, understanding of self, and healing due to loss and/or special needs.  The barn’s impact is far-reaching. Through a variety of programs, which include riding and therapy, the barn helped over 800 participants.

Kat Heggen, Executive Director of The Barn for Equine Learning recognizes community support in order to keep programming and knowledge of the facility on the forefront.  Heggen met Tonia North, owner of North Star Antiques during a Business Brew session.  From there the idea of hosting an in-store fundraising event was put into motion.

Those looking to learn more about The Barn for Equine Learning can go to their website.  The barn also offers a Community Barn Day each Saturday from 9:30am – 11am.  The community is invited to come and see the facility, learn about programs which are offered, and even help with some of the barn chores.

“Help Us Help the Barn”

The Facebook event for the fundraiser encourages shoppers to “help us help the barn” throughout the day.  North Star Antiques is located at 211 W. Main St. in downtown Lowell. Free ice cream will be handed out with every donation from 11am – 5pm.
