This enchanting spot transcends the typical play place; it represents a culmination of years of expertise and passion from its founder, Bisera Riordan. Drawing from a background as a program manager with Hope Network and an ABA therapist, Riordan’s journey led to the creation of this unique establishment, blending her professional experience with her love for children.
“When it comes to experiencing the magic of Children’s Village Cafe during open playtime, the journey is as delightful as it is straightforward,” explains Riordan. The business welcomes families to stop by on Mondays through Fridays between the hours of 9am and 1pm and again from 5pm to 7pm. Weekend hours are 10am to 12pm with the afternoon reserved for private events.
“Our classes, currently scheduled for Monday and Wednesday evenings, enrich young minds in various engaging activities,” according to Riordan.
From engaging STEM robotics classes to hands-on toddler cooking sessions and the introduction of baby sign language, there’s something tailored for every young mind to explore and discover. Moreover, the inclusion of a sensory room designed for overstimulated children underscores the establishment’s commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive environment.
“We try our hardest to find activities to include kids of other backgrounds, neurodiversity and celebrating their differences,” ensuring an inclusive and respectful environment for all who enter, Riordan says.
When children arrive, they are asked to remove their shoes before entering the play area. Newcomers are provided an introduction to the various play spaces as well as an overview of established guidelines.
“With a modest fee of $5.50, our play sessions offer two hours of boundless exploration,” Riordan says. “Every day holds a new opportunity for creativity, whether it’s through crafting, bubble time, or sensory play bins.” Designed to celebrate the town of Lowell, every corner of the play area reflects a commitment to community-building. A variety of foods, drinks and desserts are also available for purchase.
