Shannon Hanley, of Lowell, passed away on November 10, 2024 at the age of 52 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Shannon was a world traveler who enjoyed hunting, camping, photography, and hiking, particularly in the Boundary Waters. She was a beloved Director of Youth for First Congregational United Church of Christ of Lowell for more than 25 years. Shannon was a strong advocate for children and youth, as well as the LGBTQ+ community. She was an active volunteer with Lowell’s Open Table, and was instrumental in starting that organization, as well as the founding of Lowell Skate Park. Shannon graduated from Forest Hills Central High School in 1990 and Northern Michigan University in 1994.

She is survived by her son, Liam; her parents, Mary and Herb Early; sisters Melissa Hanley, Hiroko Solomon, Randi Prominski and Tiffany Leach; as well as 5 nephews, 5 nieces, and 3 great-nieces.

Memorial contributions can be made to the First Congregational UCC of Lowell Youth Group.

Visitation will be held at Roth-Gerst Funeral Home, 305 N Hudson Street in Lowell from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 17.

Funeral will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ of Lowell, 865 Lincoln Lake Ave SE at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Funeral will be followed by a dessert reception of pies and cake.
