Lowell’s newest restaurant opened recently inside the big Admiral store at 2001 W. Main Street. Old Faithful Dog is serving up amazing chili dogs on Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 11:00am to 7:00pm, and is currently closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Just walking into their dining room is an experience in itself, but the food is even better. They serve a variety of chili dogs, from their signature ‘Old Faithful Dog’ — loaded with chili, pickles, onion, mustard and ketchup — to their ‘Mac and Cheese Dog’ which is topped with hearty cheesy noodles. If hot dogs aren’t your game, they also offer a fresh tuna sandwich or the old reliable peanut butter and jelly.
Owner Eric Elzinga tells us that he chose to open his dream business in Lowell because he is Lowell-born and raised. He graduated from Lowell High School and thought there was no better way to give back to his hometown than with delicious chili dogs. He wanted to present his own unique take on the “Eastown Style” dog.
Elzinga says he’s happy to be home in Lowell and to serve up a tasty blend of steamed dogs and buns with his own secret and world famous chili, nachos and cheese, macaroni and cheese and BIG OLE pickles. He’s also proud of the atmosphere they’ve created using interesting décor, nostalgia, music and the ever-present smell of kraut and steamed buns. The chairs all filled with smiling faces and full stomachs doesn’t hurt either.
According to Elzinga, when you take that first bite of an Old Faithful Dog, you’ll experience an explosion of textures and flavors that will keep you coming back for more. The zingy chili, melted cheese, freshly chopped onions, shredded pickles, French’s mustard and Heinz ketchup will provide unmatched quality and flavor. They also recently found a supplier for buns that bakes them fresh for the restaurant almost daily.
