Chamber Appoints New Executive Director and Office Manager

We received the following press release from the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce.

 

Lowell Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce, Wednesday, January 11, 2023 -The LACC Board of Directors has hired and named Shannon Kennedy as the new Executive Director and Jessica Marks as the new Office Manager of the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce. Jessica assumed her position in November, while Shannon’s first day will be January 17.

Shannon’s background has a proven track record in marketing, event management, fundraising and leadership roles. She has a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Grand Valley State University. She comes to us from National Nail where she assumed the role of CAMO Brand Marketing Manager. Other work experiences include Director of National Events with Bethany Christian Services and North America Marketing Director of Hush Puppies, div. of Wolverine Worldwide.

The board is thrilled to welcome Shannon as the new Executive Director. She will bring experience, enthusiasm, leadership skills and a fresh perspective to our organization, taking it to the next level! Shannon, a local resident, also brings a high sense of community and pride for the Greater Lowell Area. Shannon volunteers with the Lowell Youth Sports Foundation, Caribbean Children’s Foundation, and hosts the Diane Bennett Golf Cart Classic, an annual charity fundraiser in memory of her mom. Shannon is married to Rob Kennedy, and they have two sons, Kamden and Braven. She enjoys reading, family movie night, and attending live sporting events, especially football and baseball. She will be working alongside Liz Baker, retiring Executive Director until April 1.

Jessica Marks comes to the chamber with over 20 years of experience in bookkeeping for organizations she has volunteered for and 10 years of management skills for Kent County Youth Agricultural Association, a medium-sized local non-profit. Jessica held the positions of Manager and Office Manager. She was also a Media Center Assistant with Lowell Area Schools earlier on in her work career. Jessica has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Business from Michigan State University. She is detailed oriented, has proficient computer and customer service skills.

Jessica, who loves to volunteer, fits right into the part-time position, as it allows her flexibility to continue her involvement with other organizations and boards. Jessica is the Chair of the Lowell Area Fire Authority, Assistant to the Head Coach of the Lowell High School Clay Target team, Agricultural interest representative of the Kent County Agricultural Preservation Board, and volunteers for the Newaygo County Agricultural Fair Association. A local resident, Jessica is married to Roger, and they have two adult children, Tobias and Marilla. In her spare time, Jessica raises birds, gardens, and enjoys genealogy. She is also an avid Michigan State fan. Jessica replaces retired Office Manager, Catharina Bek.
