New Boys Lacrosse Coach Hired at Lowell High School

We received the following press release from the Lowell Area Schools Athletic Department.

Eric Bredin has recently been named the Boys Varsity Lacrosse Coach at Lowell High School.

Coach Bredin has an impressive lacrosse background spanning three decades. Bredin brings a wealth of experience that he will undoubtedly use to continue to grow and elevate a program that he founded in 2004. Coach Bredin started his lacrosse career as a player for the Forest Hills Lacrosse Club, where in 1992 he earned all-state honors, captained the team, and helped to lead the team to the state semi-finals.

While attending Michigan State University, Coach Bredin was recruited to start East Lansing High School’s boys lacrosse program in 1994. Bredin also coached lacrosse in Austin, Texas and East Grand Rapids before finding a home and a career in Lowell in the early 2000s. In 2004 he organized a group of young men to create the first MHSAA varsity Lowell lacrosse team and formed the Lowell Youth Lacrosse Club the following year. In 2011, Lowell won its first conference championship under his leadership. Bredin remained the varsity coach until 2016, when he made the move to coach youth lacrosse.

Coach Bredin is replacing Austin Buckius, a former player of Bredin’s, who resigned over the summer. In his years as head coach, Buckius worked hard to advance the program forward, leading the Red Arrows to the state semifinals in 2023.

Lowell Athletic Director Patrick Russell stated upon Bredin’s return to coaching, “We are excited to welcome back Coach Bredin as the head coach of our boys lacrosse program. His passion, expertise, and commitment to developing student-athletes align perfectly with our vision for the future of lacrosse in Lowell.”

“I am excited to be back as the head coach for Lowell Boys Lacrosse. My goal is to continue to grow the program and to build on our recent successes. My mission and vision is to unite Lowell’s youth and high school programs with a single goal, to consistently compete with the best programs in the state,” Coach Bredin was quoted as saying.

After graduating with a teaching certificate from MSU, Coach Bredin began his career in education at Cherry Creek Elementary School in Lowell, where he continues to teach 5th grade. His wife, Lindsay, is also a teacher in the district as an ELA and reading instructor at Lowell Middle School.. Bredin’s three boys all play lacrosse for Lowell. Coach Bredin spends his free time with friends and family camping, kayaking, and playing music.
