Lowell Twp Board Recap: HVAC Replacement Approved

The Lowell Charter Township Board of Trustees had its regular meeting on Monday, June 19. The board only had one piece of new business in a rather short meeting. The board reviewed quotes for replacement HVAC units in the township’s board room and rental room.

Reports and Communications

Before discussing new business, the board reviewed treasurer and payroll reports and also approved the minutes from a special meeting held on May 25. At that meeting, board members approved the payment of $26,890 to Floor Care Concepts to repair the pickleball courts at the North Riverfront Park.

At that May meeting, Township Supervisor Jerry Hale also noted he had met with representatives of Impact Church and the YMCA about the possibility of constructing a pool alongside the splashpad planned for the park. According to the meeting minutes, Impact Church would deed property for the pool to the township, and the YMCA would operate and maintain the pool. Impact Church is also planning to add outdoor basketball courts near the splashpad.

In other communications during Monday’s meeting, Carlton Blough, the Fire Authority representative for the Lowell Township Board, announced a Fire Authority Joint Meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 21st at 3pm.

State Fire Grant

The state treasurer has a grant available for fire departments for $10,000. Since the Lowell department has three member municipalities, it can apply three times. Each municipality can apply for a grant.

“[The Fire Authority] can use it to pay for things [it] got in the past, which would add more money back to the budget,” Hale mentioned. He also informed board members that he sent in an application on behalf of the township for the grant.

Replacement HVAC units

The one piece of business on the agenda was the replacement of two HVAC units for Lowell Township Hall. Two quotes were received for the project:

  • Franklin Holwerda Company (FHC): $47,600
  • Alto Heating and Cooling: $46,400

Trustee Steve Vander Ziel preferred the quote from Alto Heating and Cooling. Other board members appreciated the work Alto Heating and Cooling did but thought FHC, as a larger operation, would be able to complete the project quicker.

The board voted to accept the bid from FHC with Vander Ziel voting no on the motion.

The next regular meeting of the Lowell Charter Township Board will be on Monday, July 17, at 7pm in the township hall.
