The Lowell 9/11 memorial returns for the 21st Remembrance of the 2001 terrorist attacks

We received the following press release regarding remembering 9/11.

The organizers of the Lowell 9/11 memorial released the following statement regarding the 21st remembrance of the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks:

“We are excited and humbled to announce the return of the Lowell 9/11 memorial flag placement to honor the lives of the nearly 3000 victims of the terrorist attacks from September 11th, 2001. What took place on that day still pains the psyche of the American people, and still weighs heavy on the hearts of our fellow Americans who lost loved ones on that fateful day. This memorial gives those folks a place of quiet along our beautiful flat River to mourn, reflect and remember the events that took place on that day.

This memorial will also give our community the opportunity to teach our youngest, who were not around to witness the events that took place that day, about what happened and how important it is to not take our freedom for granted.

This memorial also serves as a reminder to all of us, who we truly are as a nation. In the ensuing days after the attacks the best of America came forward and came together to pull our nation throughthis. September 11th is an event in our nation’s history that both showed us the worst of humankind’s evil, and yet it also showed the best of humankind’s love, sacrifice and compassion. In our current time, a time of such animosity, strife, and outright hatred, we must remember who we are as Americans when we come together to overcome our challenges as a nation. We cannot and must not forget what unites us, and not stride to live our lives based on what divides us and causes hatred amongst us. We are United by freedom, liberty and our natural rights given by the almighty God above to the American people so that we may stand as a beacon of hope, freedom, and limitless dreams for the rest of the world. We must remember this day, so that we can stride towards being the America of September 12th 2001.

I hope that this community memorial provides an opportunity for us to be a united community and reflective of the United America of September 12th.”
