LowellArts: Felted Gathering Basket Class

$40In this class, students will have the opportunity to create a sturdy gathering basket using the wet felting process with coarser wool breeds, as well as a fairly thick layout. Class goes over the entire wet felting process through instruction and demonstration: wool types, layout and design using a resist, felting, and fulling. Whether you are new to wet felting, or experienced, this is a fun, very useful project to complete; expect to get a workout in the process! The wool to be used is undyed and natural. Examples will be provided. Though driftwood will be provided for handles, students are welcome to bring their own special pieces to incorporate if desired. Finished basket will have an approximately 8” diameter.

Ages: 12 to Adult
Materials Needed: All materials provided.
Class Fee: $40 ($36 for LowellArts Members). Fee includes materials.
Samantha Coon is a self-taught artist, working in both wet and needle felting. She was introduced to felting in 2009 while living in mid-coast Maine. She has taught classes to both children and adults that include projects using resists, both sculptural and wearable, surface design techniques, working with pre-felts, and introductory needle felting.
