Flat River Outreach Ministries Offers Free Tax Service

Tax time is here again!  Flat River Outreach Ministries (FROM) has been helping prepare taxes for those with a lower household income for a decade through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA).  The service is free.  While most of the people helped are in the Lowell area, there have been households from outside the state who have been helped.

The Details
VITA is a program through the Heart of West Michigan United Way.  Volunteers are trained at the location by the IRS.  After completing training, volunteers are ready to work with clients preparing taxes.

Appointments can be made by calling United Way at 2-1-1.  Each Tuesday from now until April 10 appointments lasting an hour and a half can be made between 9:30am and 6:30pm.  In order to receive this free service, the maximum household income is $60,000.

In 2017 volunteers helped 292 clients receive $373,183 in refunds.   This service is one of many available at FROM.  Their program and services page outlines ways those within the community can receive help.
