Furry Friday

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process.  And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

Higbee’s most endearing feature is how he must bring you something every time you go to his kennel. Be it his toy, his bone, or a treat that he’s been saving, you can count on this happy guy to try and share it with you! Higbee’s hobbies include going for boat rides, sightseeing, and cuddling. But really, he will do anything as long as he’s hanging out with his people! Higbee is a social butterfly and loves meeting new people! Send in an application today to set up a meeting with this happy-go-lucky guy!

Birthday: 11-08-2011
I have been being introduced to more dog friends recently and that has been going really well. I have even met some more children, I enjoyed watching them run around (child’s age – 11)

Higbee, an adoptable Boxer & Terrier Mix in Lake Odessa, MI

My name is Rosalind. I’m a Catahoula Leopard Dog/Hound Mix. I arrived at MAS with 4 puppies. Now that my puppies are older, I’m ready to find my own forever home! I’m a little shy/nervous when I meet new people. I’ve met some kids and I do best with kids that are older and quieter. I love playing with toys and using my nose to sniff all the interesting smells I find on a walk. I’m looking forward to meeting my new family soon!

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Koopa is a 55 pound, 2 year old Staffy Mix who came to our rescue all the way from Arkansas. He has the happiest, goofiest personality!! He loves everyone and everything and adds so much laughter to any scenario; we just adore him. Koopa would do best in a home without smaller children due to his size and playful spirit. He’s also always ready for a cuddle session, he has two speeds – sleepy adorable puppy, and happy walking buddy. This beautiful boy is going to bring so much love to a very lucky forever home. Koopa is neutered, microchipped and up to date on shots. His adoption fee is $250. To adopt Koopa, apply at: www.rescueofhope.com/adoption-application

Are you looking for a puppy without all the work of a puppy? Bella is the puppy for you!

Bella made the long trip to us from Arkansas and would love to find her forever home. She is a 4-month-old Shepard/Jack Russell mix. She will be a medium size dog and is sweetest dog you will ever meet. She would love fur and human siblings to run and play with in a fenced yard. Coming from a shelter environment she can be timid with new people but will quickly become your best friend. And the best part is, Bella is house and crate trained, although she IS still a puppy and could have an accident.

Bella is spayed, microchipped and current on her vaccines. So, there is nothing left for you to do but love her! Her adoption fee is $300.

Holliday’s Exotic Avian Rescue Team

HEART specializes in rehoming birds when all other alternatives have been considered. Based in Lowell, birds are fostered primarily in Lowell or White Pigeon. Here are their pets of the week.

Harley is a 30+ DNA’d Male Harlequin macaw. He CANNOT be in a home with other macaws unless you are willing to keep him in a completely separate area of the home. Once he forms a bond, he’s very sweet and talks a lot. He plucks during hormone season, but being away from other macaws may help that.

You WILL be required to have or buy an appropriate sized cage(MINIMUM of 5 or 6 FT tall).

Buddy is a male Goffin Cockatoo born in 2001. He had the same owner for quite a few years before he came to Cockatoo Ranch. He is extremely possessive of his old owner so when Grandchildren moved in it was not a good situation. He has regrown his feathers since coming to us, he gets along well with a household with multiple animals and lots of things going on. He thinks he is a huge eagle and loves to show you big wings. He will require someone that is willing to take their time and build a relationship with him. Buddy will only be adopted out with another cockatoo.

We try to set up our new bird owners the best we can so $250 of your adoption fee is used to purchase you a one year membership in Level One and the Parrot Project through the Animal Behavioral Center. This membership give you the tools needed to establish a relationship, target training, learning how to prevent negative behaviors like screaming and biting(which can be a real challenge with cockatoos). It also provides you with a community of supportive knowledegable bird owners led by Lara Joseph.
