Mundts Set to Retire but Will Remain Active in the Community

Nearly 29 years ago, Mark and Theresa Mundt became Lowell residents.  Together they have worked a combined 43 years for the City of Lowell. The end of this month, the two will retire from their current positions.  But their role in the community will continue.

Working and Living in Lowell
The Mundts can often be seen walking down Main Street heading to or from a local destination.  They attend many City Council meetings. And squatters beware if you mistakenly or purposely take Mark’s usual seat before they arrive.  The couple typically takes the behind the scenes approach to making a difference, not wanting to be in the spotlight themselves. But their work at their jobs and within the community does not go unnoticed.

Mark has worked at the Wastewater Treatment Plant since making Lowell his home.  His role managing the plant for nearly three decades has seen growth, changes, and even flooding at the facility located at Recreation Park.

Theresa will be leaving behind 15 years of experience as City employee.  She started off as a clerk/dispatcher for the Lowell Police Department. Four years ago she moved down the hall and became part of city staff as an Administrative Assistant before taking on her current role as Deputy Clerk in November 2016.

When the Mundts are out and about in town, they’re always eager to wave and say “hi” or have a conversation with those they come across.  They enjoy living within walking distance to the downtown area, taking advantage of visiting retail establishments and festivals throughout the year.

Looking Back and Moving Forward
The Mundts have seen the community of Lowell change quite a bit in the last three decades.  “Really, just being part of this great town is remarkable.” says Mark. “The Main Street businesses are definitely more vital than they were when we moved here. With that growth has also come more special things that make Lowell the wonderful place that it is.”  He’ll soon have more time to enjoy those things.

Theresa has enjoyed working with and meeting various people through her roles at City Hall remarking, “One of the best things about working for the City is meeting people from the community and getting to know them and working with everyone in the City.”  She also notes seeing various activities started in the community through the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce such as the Sizzlin’ Summer Concert Series, Christmas Through Lowell, and parades which bring man people to Lowell.

It’s unlikely the Mundts will retire and go off into the sunset never to be heard from again.  Quite the opposite is predicted by both. Spending more time with their young granddaughter is high on the list of things to do in retirement.  A nine-day babysitting job is already on the calendar for May. They will also continue to be involved with the Lowell Rotary Club and their church youth group as well as planning on volunteering time at local organizations including Flat River Outreach Ministries.

Mark and Theresa are encouraged when it comes to Lowell’s future.  Theresa states, “I believe getting the new Showboat will help Lowell grow even more and bring more people to the City.  Lowell is not only the next place to be, but it is the best place to be!”

The two are looking forward to retirement and seeing what direction Lowell will head in the coming years.  “I hope the City will alway be the same loving, giving, caring community that it has always been. A place that people call home.” reflects Mark.

Stop By with Well Wishes
This is the final week of employment before the Mundts are set to retire.  On Thursday, March 29 from 4pm – 7pm the community is invited to stop by and wish Mark and Theresa well.  The reception will be held on the second floor of City Hall. Light refreshments will be available.
