Press Release: State Representative Thomas Albert to Seek 3rd Term

We received the following press release from the Committee to Elect Thomas A. Albert.

State Representative Thomas Albert (R-Lowell) announced he will be running for a third term in the 86th House District, which covers portions of Kent and Ionia Counties.

“Being entrusted by one’s community to be their voice in state government is a great honor,” Albert said. “Over the last two terms I have focused on producing results and advocating for our local families and businesses.”

Albert was selected as the Chair of the House Appropriation Sub-committee on Corrections. He also serves on the Agriculture, Military Veterans and State Police, and School Aid Fund Appropriation Sub-committees. As Corrections chair, Albert has placed a strong emphasis on improving critical staffing shortfalls and employee wellness. “A recent study conducted on corrections employees brought to light some staggering statistics,” Albert said, “We need to ensure corrections employees, who are a vital component to law enforcement and public safety, are given the support they need.”

Albert was named by MIRS News as Freshman Legislator of the Year in 2017 because of his efforts to bring stability within public-school finances. Albert continues to champion efforts to make school funding sustainable. “I will not idly stand by and support polices which will bankrupt our school system in 15 to 20 years. Children are our future and we must ensure they have the resources needed to succeed,” Albert said.

While serving in Lansing, Albert has also been an advocate for the sanctity of life, supportive of Second Amendment rights, auto insurance reform, criminal justice reform and a strong Michigan economy. “I am very proud of the results produced this term alone. We passed comprehensive auto insurance reform, criminal justice reform measures and record school funding. My next term I will continue to support our local community”

Thomas and his wife Erica live in Vergennes Township with their three children. More information about Rep. Albert can be found on his campaign website.
