Furry Friday

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process.  And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

They call me Baby Bug because in your arms is my happy place! I love getting attention and being a true lap dog, other than I weigh about 27lbs. A home that can provide ample amounts of laps for me to curl up on is a must. I am not shy and will tell you when I feel I am not getting the attention I deserve.

I do love to run and play just as much as being a lap warmer. I am selective when it comes to canine playmates. I have lived with dogs in the past but I can be pretty dominant to other dogs. I have done well for my kids intros, so I would do well in a home with children.

If you are ready to bring home a cuddley Baby Bug, submit your adoption application today!

Baby Bug 2

What is super gentle, been rated 5 stars for soft ears, has the cuddling skills of your favorite childhood teddy bear, and loads of adorable wrinkles?

Hi, my name is Zelda. I’m pretty new at Mackenzie’s and I’m quickly becoming everyone’s best friend! But I have to say, I am too much of a people kind of dog for the kennel environment. I spend a lot of time with the volunteer coordinator in her office, which is awesome for me because I get to greet all the volunteers and staff that stop by! I am quite the couch-potato while inside, but I do like to have a good romp out in a safely fenced in yard – I am a hound after all, I love to follow my nose. As you can see in the video, I absolutely LOVE ruffling around in a snuffle matt! It’s un-earthly how cute my wrinkles are, seriously.

I enjoy being around children; ear rubs, kisses and getting one-on-one snuggles are the best! However, I have some prey drive and would not do well in a home with cats.

Please go to www.mackenzies.info to fill out an adoption application today. I can’t wait to meet you!

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue looks to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Our sweet Marlow is the most special, lovable soul!! We are hoping she finds a human just as special, that appreciates and understands her and her special needs. Marlow is a 48 pound, 2 year old GSD Mix who came to our Rescue from our good friends at DACC. Sweet Marlow suffered a spinal injury and has been on a tough journey. She is doing a wonderful job and can even climb stairs now!! Her foster Mama is taking the best care of her, and she is just flourishing. Marlow is house trained, and does very well with humans of all ages. She does well with other pups but prefers a meet and greet first. This sweet girl is spayed, microchipped and up to date on shots. To adopt Marlow apply at www.rescueofhope.com/adoption-application

If you’re looking for a loyal friend like Marlow, please apply to adopt her at rescueofhope.com/adopt. Her vaccines, spay, heartworm treatment and microchip are included in her adoption fee, which is $250.

Nick is a 2 year old, 40 pound, staffy mix who made his way to Michigan for a better life.  This guy is a total couch potato and he is all in for binge watching anything.  He’s currently commited himself to rewatching all of the Marvel movies … in the correct order.  There are two things that bring Nick more joy than being lazy.  HUMANS AND CAR RIDES!!!  This guy has never met a human he didn’t love and he will do anything to feel the wind blowing through his ears on a good road trip.  Nick is potty trained and crate trained (but he does just fine all day outside of his create).  Nick would love to be the only pet in your home so he can shower you with all of his puppy love. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. His adoption fee is $250. To adopt Nick apply at www.rescueofhope.com/adoption-application

Holliday’s Exotic Avian Rescue Team

HEART specializes in rehoming birds when all other alternatives have been considered. Based in Lowell, birds are fostered primarily in Lowell or White Pigeon. Here are their pets of the week.

Barley is a five year old Triton Cockatoo, he lived in the same home and then was sold to a pet store about 11 months ago.

He stayed at the pet store for eight months and they thought they had found a good match for him but they had smaller birds in the home that he had access to so they brought him back because he was trying to go after the smaller birds.

He is not a bad boy, that is typical behavior for a cockatoo.

He was just seen by my avian vet, he is micro chipped and he also had a Depo implant, I feel that really helps them settle into a new home.

That being said Triton‘s are smart, loud, and can be very territorial with their cage so he will not go to a home that has small children and I follow the veterinary recommendations on cages so two times his wingspan will be required. You can find the wingspan information and cage sizes on Natural inspirations cages website, if a cage is needed I can provide assistance with that.

Adoption fee: $700

Location: White Pigeon, MI
