The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process.  And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

Hi, I’m Boo – but don’t let my name scare you, I’m a gentle giant that is looking to complete my perfect forever family!

I’m one of the sweetest and kindest dogs you could ever meet. I like plenty of snacks, long walks, car rides, lots of snuggles and plenty of attention! Meeting people is one of my favorite things in the whole world. I love kids, but older kids are more likely able to handle my big boy size. I am what is called “dog selective” which means while I have made some doggy friends at MAS, I didn’t get along with every dog. I might be good in a home with another dog, but it would come down to a dog introduction. I am not a good fit for a family that has cats, wants to go to a dog park, or has a lot of puppy play dates.

If you think I’d be a good fit for your home (which I feel like I would be) fill out an application today!

Boo, an adoptable Terrier Mix in Lake Odessa, MI_image-1

I am looking for a foster-to-adopt family to provide a calm environment while I finish my heartworm treatment. What is heartworm you ask? I am so glad you asked! Heartworms happen when an infected mosquito bites a dog (that unfortunately hasn’t been treated with preventative), and the heartworm larvae travel through the bloodstream and into the heart; where the larvae then grow into 12-14 inch worms (EW!). Beings that we live in Michigan and there is a TON of water around for the mosquito population to breed and reproduce (more than I’m sure everyone appreciates), heartworm prevention should be a top priority for pets. Take it from me….this treatment stuff is terrible to go through and no fun (also it is SO much cheaper to prevent it from happening, rather than treating the aftermath).

As previously pointed out, it is important that my foster-to-adopt family keeps me on my activity restrictions because while the treated (aka dead) heartworms are being dissolved and clearing from my body, if I get too excited or too worked up the undissolved remnants can break off and cause a blockage in my bloodstream that can have serious consequences. I am scheduled to be cleared and eligible for an official adoption in January of 2023.

Now that we got that serious stuff out of the way….here comes the fun! If the phrase “Do you even lift bro?” was a dog….it would definitely be referring to me. I know I look like I spend all my time at the gym, but my real strength is in my heart (no I don’t mean the worms silly….I meant all the love I have in there). Being around people and being the center of attention is my idea of a good time (honestly with my strikingly handsome look, its bound to happen); I am happy to go for car rides with you to show off too! So if you are looking for a sure-to-turn-heads dog, that is friendly, sweet, dog social, and will ignore your cat….what are you even waiting for? Submit your adoption application and lets get this show on the road!

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue looks to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Blayze is a beautiful 8 month old terrier mix. She has the most adorable ears and gorgeous lashes that she will without doubt use to melt your heart.  She currently weighs in at 25 pounds, but has some growing to do.  This sweet girl is about as good as they come.  She is good with cats, other dogs and older children and comes house and crate trained.  Her favorite things include lots of toys to chew, napping in her big bed and going for meandering walks.  Most of all, she loves tennis balls and she is a natural retriever.  Her dislikes include going for walks in the dark, but she says everyone should be sleeping when it’s dark out!  This girl is medium energy but she definitely has a lazy streak.  If you are looking for a cuddle buddy, she would love to volunteer for the job. She is  spayed and microchipped and has her first set of vaccines.  Her adoption fee is $275.

Chewbacca AKA Chewy or Bach is a 4-year-old Pit Bull who is ready for his forever home! Chewbacca would be a great fit for an active family who would love to join him running around the yard or doing anything fun! He especially loves water – sprinklers, kiddie pools, anything water related, he’s in! He currently weighs around 70 pounds, but is working on losing some weight (who isn’t, right?) He does well with other dogs of all sizes as well as cats. Even though he has energy and likes to have fun, he does like to relax and is a great cuddle buddy. He is crate trained and house trained. He also knows basic commands and is learning more by the day. He is very eager to please. He is a perfect gentleman who would love to be a part of your family! He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots. His adoption fee is $250. Apply to adopt Chewbacca at www.rescueofhope.com/adoption-application
