Scenes from Lowell: Santa and Christmas Parade Edition

Santa has arrived in Lowell, and the city had a full day planned for him. It started with a line of eager children, followed by a pancake supper and then a parade to celebrate the big guy as well as ring in the holiday season. Here’s a peek at Santa’s arrival in Lowell.

For the occasion, the Riverwalk was transformed into Christmas Lane.

Santa started seeing children at 2:30pm on Saturday, and a line quickly formed at his door.

However, the wait wasn’t bad as the weather was warm, and performers from Luc James Music Studio kept the mood festive.

Once inside, kids signed Santa’s guestbook, met with Mrs. Claus and, of course, got some time one-on-one with the man in red.

After seeing Santa Claus, kids could head next door to the Chamber office for cookies and cocoa hosted by Birchwood Garden Apartments.

Staff from the TOTS Curiosity Corner were also there with plenty of craft supplies for little ones to enjoy.

While the little kids were doing crafts, some bigger kids were working on larger projects. Shown here are Lowell High School lacrosse players and their families putting the final touches on their parade float.

At 6pm, crowds turned out to pack Main Street for the nighttime Christmas Parade. Our thanks to Nicki Videto Photography for sharing some photos of the event.

As always, the parade started with the United States Flag.

The theme was Redneck Christmas, and there were plenty of creative takes from parade participants.

Parade entrants included local bands, businesses, scouts and sports group. Here’s the completed lacrosse team float.

The nighttime parade meant floats were aglow were lights.

Bringing up the rear was Santa and Mrs. Claus, eschewing the traditional horse-drawn carriage to instead ride redneck-style down the parade route.
