Scenes from Lowell: Scholarships and Sale Edition

This week’s Scenes from Lowell is all about the $$$.

Let’s start with money handed out by the Rotary Club to three deserving college students during its Wednesday meeting.

With his dad looking on, Connor Smithee accepts the Doyle Scholarship from the Lowell Rotary Club. Connor will be attending Ball State University this fall as a freshman and has been active in Lowell as a member of the high school radio station and as an Eagle Scout with Boy Scout Troop 102.

Tess Richardson is another recipient of the Doyle Scholarship. She is a sophomore at the University of Michigan.

Montana Launer, a junior at Central Michigan University, received the Hahn Scholarship. Although not present at the meeting, Kanon Dean and Victoria Picken have also been selected to received Rotary scholarships this year.

Now, let’s turn our attention to how you can spend your money in Lowell this week:

There is a massive garage sale going on at the Lowell First Baptist Church through tomorrow morning. Proceeds go to support the Alpha Family Center of Lowell. The sale wraps up tomorrow (Saturday) from 9am-12pm when there will be a box sale at everything-must-go-prices.

We couldn’t help but pick up a few things for ourselves while there. If you can’t make it to the sale but still want to support the Alpha Family Center, they could use your vote in a online contest being held on Facebook by Mercantile Bank. Click this link, vote for Alpha Family Center and hopefully they will be the recipient of some extra money to help with their mission of supporting Lowell families.

Have a great weekend Lowell!
