Scenes from Lowell: Week of Love Edition

We’ve wrapped up another banner week in Lowell, and love was most certainly in the air.

To start, it was Valentine’s Day on Wednesday. Cynics may scoff, but candy hearts and chocolates were freely flowing in town.

In addition to celebrating with traditional Valentine’s Day parties, students at Lowell Area Schools shared how they show their love for one another with acts of kindness.

Wednesday was also the start of Lent, a season that represents a different sort of love for Christians. Here, students from St. Patrick School participate in a palm burning ceremony in which palm leaves are burned to make ashes for Ash Wednesday church services.

Lent also means the start of the annual fish fry dinners at St. Mary Church. The Knights of Columbus, who run the event, are showing a little love to the Alpha Family Center by donating all the proceeds from the dinners this year to buy the non-profit a new ultrasound machine.

Finally, local business, government and non-profit leaders packed Deer Run Golf Club for the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Winter Gathering. Award presenter Rick Seese of Greenridge Realty described it as Lowell’s version of the Academy Awards. Those present showed a little love and appreciation to businesses being recognized for their contributions to Lowell as well as the 2018 Lowell Person of the Year: Betsy Davidson.

Yes, love was in the air in Lowell this past week, and we hope you were feeling it too.
