Vergennes Twp Board Recap: New Burial Fees Approved

The Vergennes Township Board had its regular meeting on Monday, August 21st. A majority of the board was present for a short meeting that had one piece of business on the agenda: pay and fee changes.

Opening and Closing Fees at Vergennes Township Cemeteries

There was discussion of the price for opening and closing graves in township cemeteries for traditional burials and cremations. Lately, there has been a trend of these fees increasing elsewhere. After discussion, the board decided that the proposed increased fees were “reasonable.”

A motion was made to change grave opening and closing fees for burials to $600 and for cremations to $300. It was passed unanimously.

Minute Taker Pay Rate

Another item discussed was the pay for the minute taker/recording secretary.

Specifically, the focus of the discussion was on pay for the the minute taker for the planning commission. While board meetings can be short, recording planning commission meetings — which may have extensive comments from the public — can be taxing.

The board came up with $100 as a reasonable pay for the minute taker. It was noted that this amount was, “More than Grattan and less than Ada.” If a meeting lasts more than an hour, then an extra $25 an hour will be paid.

A motion was made and unanimously agreed upon.

Anti-Virus Software

There was a problem with Outlook in the office computers. As a result, the board discussed using Bit Defender as its antivirus protection. The township will be refunded for the unused months for the previous anti-virus software. The motion to use the Bit Defender antivirus for $294.75 was approved unanimously.

The next regular meeting of the Vergennes Township Board will be on Monday, September 18, at 7pm.
