The final push to file taxes has come to an end. In Lowell, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program run through the IRS and United Way, has calculated their final numbers. Over 1,000 volunteer hours were clocked and more than 150 tax preparations were completed for the 2021 tax year.
Below are additional stats, which were sent to us by a coordinator for the program.
Volunteer hours: 1,045.5 (Includes training, recertification hours, and open hours)
2021 Tax Preparations: 263
2021 Refunds: $454,447.00 (federal and state)
Amended returns: 28
Previous year returns: $15,368.00
Look for information in December for volunteering to help as well as how to sign up to have tax paperwork prepared free of charge for those who qualify.
