The Weekend in Lowell: It’s All About Anne

The big event this weekend in Lowell involves one of literature’s most beloved characters.

Fans of Lucy Maud Montgomery need no introduction to Anne (spelled with an “e,” thank you very much). For everyone else, she is the orphan girl from Prince Edward Island, Canada whose red hair and dramatic flair have captured the imaginations of readers young and old.

Now, you can see Anne live and in-person thanks to the LowellArts Youth Theater production of Anne of Green Gables. The play will be held at the Lowell Performing Arts Center at the high school at the following times:

  • Friday, January 20 at 7pm
  • Saturday, January 21 at 2:30pm

Sierra Hieshetter stars in the title role as Anne Shirley. Alongside her is Ken Parrish and Laura Leasure who play the roles of Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, the brother/sister duo who were expecting a boy to help work their farm and instead end up with Anne.

The cast includes 25 local residents, young and old, and is directed by Brent Alles. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5 each. Children age 2 or younger are admitted for free.

Do you have a weekend event or activity you think should be covered in our round-up? We’d love to include it so please contact us with all the details. Event information must be received by Thursday for inclusion in the Friday article.
