Furry Friday

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process. And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional cats and dogs looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

For additional information about each organization visit their websites or read our intro article to Furry Friday!  The following pet profiles are provided by each rescue.

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

I’m Rose! I’m a three and a half year old Boxer mix. I’m a curious and busy gal – there’s just so much to do and so much to see – but sometimes I come off as kind of independent. Sometimes I need to be reminded to slow down and take in the little things. Once activity quiets down though, I really do love to cuddle! Belly rubs are my absolute favorite! You can probably see from my pictures that belly rubs and love are an easy way to make me happy…

Some of my favorite people take me for offsite adventures, and it’s always such a nice treat. I love meeting new people, and car rides are one of my absolute favorite things ever (a close second to belly rubs). I ride in the car really nicely too, so I’d be a great partner for trips and adventures.

Are you looking for a reason to cancel your Friday night plans (let’s be serious, you didn’t want to make them in the first place!)? When you adopt me, you’ll have a guaranteed date night for every Friday! I have them all planned out already, all you need to do is buy the dog treats and tennis balls. Oh, and pay the Netflix bill (Netflix refuses to accept dog kisses as a form of payment (insert doggy eye roll here)). Our standing date nights will go as follows: we go for a leisurely stroll around the block, you throw a ball around for me, we eat snacks, we watch Netflix, we cuddle, and you rub my belly. Repeat every Friday night (or really, 7 days a week!) for the rest of our lives together! Now if only they would let dogs attend weddings, I would be your “forever plus one”! Submit you application today! I’m so excited to meet you!

Vicky’s Pet Connection

Vicky’s Pet Connection works with the Kent County Animal Shelter to rescue cats and kittens.  They also take in dogs older in age and those needing special care. Here are their pets of the week.

My name is Cardamom (like the spice!) and I just finished raising a litter of kittens and, boy, they were a lot of work! I was a great mom, though, and took loving care of them all! Now, though, they are moving on to new homes and I’m ready for some “me” time! I’m a gorgeous girl with so much love to give. How about meeting me?

Carol’s Ferals

Carol’s Ferals specializes in trap, neuter, return (TNR), but they come across “friendlies” who are available for adoption. Here are their pets of the week.

Hi, I’m Melina. I’m approximately four years’ old, and came to Carol’s in October 2017 after being rescued by a TNR volunteer here in Grand Rapids. I’m a little shy, but I’m doing better now and have hiding up high. I’d love to have a home of my own, but I would probably be okay with one other cat and possibly a dog. I haven’t met other animals yet, but if I were introduced slowly I may be okay.

Hi, I’m Hugin. I am a very friendly, laid back guy who enjoys a good chin rub and back scratch. I sure would love a family to call my own.

Hi, I’m Monet. I live up to my name – I am a sophisticated, beautiful, long hair girl. I was rescued from a house where I was being fed but not much else. I was covered in fleas, and very sickly. My boy Bruno has found a home and my other boy Stevie is ready for a home of his own here. I am so glad I was able to leave that awful situation and I am now ready to be pampered in a home of my own.

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue look to find dogs and sometimes cats in their care forever homes with the help of foster homes.  Here are their pets of the week.

Betty is a beautiful 1 year old lab mix. She has the heart of a puppy and is the sweetest soul you’ll ever meet. Betty didn’t have the best start to life, but you’d never know it from her constant smile. She came to us from Louisiana with a slight limp. We visited an orthopedic surgeon and had x-rays done. Betty has a some issues with her front leg and hips. It could be genetic, but we’ll never know the cause. Surgery wasn’t recommended at this time, but could definitely be needed in the future. We’re providing daily pain meds for her comfort and supplements to help her joints. Betty absolutely adores every dog she meets and couldn’t be more excited to meet all the people! Betty doesn’t let her legs slow her down or affect her joy for life. She would do well in a home with dogs and people of all ages, but should be kept on the calm side, so the best fursiblings for her would be calmer dogs. Her ideal home would be happy to snuggle on the couch and keep her activity to a minimum and provide the best veterinary care possible. If you are looking for the kindest dog out there, and are able to provide the special care Betty deserves, please apply for her. Her adoption fee is $200.

Hi! I’m Linus and I’d love to join your family! I’m 8 weeks old and a total mutt puppy. My mom came from Louisiana, so I have deep south cajun roots!

Because I’m still a baby learning every day, I’ll need a family with puppy experience. I’m really smart and I love when people teach me new things! My favorite activity is running clumsily through the house and jumping over objects, toys and cats. I’m pretty big for my age and it doesn’t look like I’m going to stop growing any time soon. I may end up being a medium to large dog. Right now I’m learning to potty outside and doing really well but I’m going to need a solid routine to keep up my progress.

My favorite thing in the whole world is snuggle time with my peoples and playing with the doggos and kitties! I pretty much love everyone and everything and would love to join your family for the holidays! He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. His adoption fee is $300.
