Furry Friday

The following animals are available for adoption.  If you find an animal you’d like to adopt please contact the organization directly.  Lowell’s First Look does not assist with the adoption process.  And if you’re looking to add to your family and don’t see an animal below, each organization has additional cats, dogs, or farm animals looking for new homes.   Pet profiles and photos are provided by each organization.

For additional information about each organization visit their websites or read our intro article to Furry Friday!

Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

Those involved with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary take pride in finding the right home for dogs in their care. Here are their pets of the week.

Hi, my name is Ned! I’ve only been at MAS a short while, but my charm and good looks have helped me make friends, both of the two and four leg variety. I’m still pretty young, just over a year old, so the staff and volunteers at MAS have been teaching me commands and manners – and helping me to remember to use them. Since I sometimes get excited and might forget to be polite, I’d prefer a home with older kids. I love to run and play, but I’m also happy to lie down next to my human friends and keep them company. Best of both worlds, I think!

I am such a fun loving dude! My name is Tonto!! I would love to meet you and just hang out. I love the large play yard and walks, and running with some volunteers. I am working on my commands, and manners, as I am in the Comeback Canine program….this is a training program with our trainers at Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary. I love hanging out in the offices and playing with toys. I am probably not the dog to have in a home with kitty cats.

Carol’s Ferals

Carol’s Ferals specializes in trap, neuter, return (TNR), but they come across “friendlies” who are available for adoption. Here are their pets of the week.

Erwin (Male/Black)
If you are looking for a loving high energy cat, I’m your man!  I love people, the red dot, and being petted.  I can get a little testy around other cats, but it may be because there are SO MANY cats in here and I need more stimulation!  Having children to play may help my energy level.  Come meet me and let’s play!

Beta (Female/Calico)
I am still very shy, but love to be petted.  You have to admit I am BEAUTIFUL!  Please search me out when you come into the room; I am most likely in a cubby, but will come out to get love.  Let’s get acquainted and see where it leads.

Ferris (Male/Gray Tabby) and Izabella (Female/Calico)
It must be spring, because LOVE is in the air!  Ferris and Izabella (Izzy) met at the facility about a year ago, and over time they bonded.  (It’s a good thing we spay and neuter all our cats!).  Izzy is from Beruit; Ferris is from the Grand Rapids southeast side.  Who knows if they speak the same cat language, but they play, cuddle, and take care of one another.  They are both shy and rely on one another for companionship.  Ferris has an adorable chirping meow and loves belly rubs.  Izzy can demonstrate her cute little hops and will demand affection.  The best way to get their attention and gain their trust is with wet food – they LOVE it!!  If you are a patient person who wants to adopt a bonded pair, Ferris and Izzy would blossom in your home.

Vicky’s Pet Connection

Vicky’s Pet Connection works with the Kent County Animal Shelter to rescue cats and kittens.  They also take in dogs older in age and those needing special care. Here are their pets of the week.

Meet Tipsy and Tiki!  These sweet cats are a very special, bonded pair.  They were discovered abandoned in an apartment after their owner was evicted but, luckily,  the landlord arrived before things became desperate!  The brown tabby is named Tipsy because she is a  little ….well…tipsy!  She has a little bit of a head bobble that makes her quite special.  We’re not sure what caused it but it doesn’t bother her if it doesn’t’ bother you!  Whatever caused her head “tilt” has also likely affected her hearing as we believe she might be deaf.  She compensates just fine, though and is a  VERY sweet and beautiful girl who is just down on her luck.  Her best friend is named Tikii.  Tiki is also unique because she is missing a section of her ear!  She’s not telling us how that happened so it will always remain a mystery!  Tiki and Tipsy are quite bonded and we think that having a best friend that hears well helps Tipsy (the deaf kitty) navigate her world a little better.  They are both very affectionate cats and they have been through a lot together so we’re love to find a home where they can BOTH be adopted and remain best frienda.  Will you help us give them another shot?  If you’d like to meet them, they are hanging out together at The Critter Cottage in Ada!
If you are interested in these kitties, please fill out an Adoption Application at vickyspetconnection.org. A volunteer will contact you–usually within 24 hours.
